ALIEN BABIES

blargchickahonkhonk So... here we are. /rubs the back of his neck as he leads Arbiter from the mafia room to the rest
blargchickahonkhonk /of the city
arbitrator The architecture is very different, from our homeland's.
arbitrator I have seen human settlements such as Reach, and Earth.
arbitrator Never this close.
arbitrator /loping alongside him, surprisingly light on his feet with all that armour
blargchickahonkhonk Yeah, humans tend to value function over form when it comes to their buildings. Sometimes you get
blargchickahonkhonk some really pretty buildings, but mostly, they're just towers of rebar and concrete.
arbitrator Interesting.
arbitrator /a look this way and that, then to junior
arbitrator Thank you for taking me along.
arbitrator I have done many wrongs by their species; knowing more can change this.
blargchickahonkhonk /ducks his head a bit/ I admit, my motives aren't entirely selfless.
blargchickahonkhonk I wanted to spend more time with you.
arbitrator Is that so? I am humbled you think that.
arbitrator I may be a figurehead, but some of our people still consider me without honour.
blargchickahonkhonk I don't have the leisure to have a non-professional relationship with many of my own kind.
blargchickahonkhonk I'm afraid I don't know as much as I should. And there are those who believe me a false prophet.
blargchickahonkhonk So I understand how it feels to be looked down upon like that.
arbitrator Trust in me when I say, you do not want the burden of one of the Great Prophets.
arbitrator I think you do more than enough on your own--you and Lavernius Tucker.
arbitrator /such respect, saying the human's name
blargchickahonkhonk Still, there are those who want more of me. Those who want less. It's hard to balance so many
blargchickahonkhonk expectations.
arbitrator /a pause in his step, watching the younger sangheili--then a look to the nearest structure
arbitrator It will always be that way, that push and pull.
arbitrator I am glad to understand it, I will listen if you have difficulty.
blargchickahonkhonk I do not wish to burden you unnecessarily. Being able to spend time with you is a greater service
blargchickahonkhonk that you do me than you know.
blargchickahonkhonk I take great comfort and strength from your friendship, and your belief in me.
arbitrator /a silence, but the air is fond--all of his teammates were important, every one a greatly
arbitrator /respected sangheili
arbitrator /junior is no exception
arbitrator It is one of the kindest things ever said to me.
arbitrator You have my thanks.
blargchickahonkhonk It's not a kindness, it is my feelings. /all earnestness up in here/ I think of you standing behind
blargchickahonkhonk me when my days are their darkest, and I feel strong.
blargchickahonkhonk Like I can take on anything.
arbitrator ... I will keep your words close.
arbitrator /the slightest bow of his head
blargchickahonkhonk /just... gonna brush their hands toghet. Is that okay? He's not sure if it's okay/
blargchickahonkhonk /How does I alien?/
blargchickahonkhonk /*together/
arbitrator /junior you are so human it is simultaneously hilarious and endearing to him
blargchickahonkhonk /It's not funny, it's frustrating, how is he supposed to be taken seriously if he doesn't know how
blargchickahonkhonk act like his own species?/
arbitrator /a bit of a flinch, but not from disdain or distaste--
arbitrator /but after a second's thought to it, it's allowed, and his grip tightens
arbitrator I know not what you are attempting.
arbitrator But rest easy, I do not mind.
blargchickahonkhonk /Oh, welp, dang, this is not a thing aliens do, what's he gonna do?/
blargchickahonkhonk It's... a comfort thing? Kind of. Mom used to have me hold his hand a lot when I was smaller.
blargchickahonkhonk So I wouldn't run off and get hurt, or if he was worried I was going to get shot.
blargchickahonkhonk Or.. just because, sometimes.
blargchickahonkhonk /he shrugs/ It's just a thing humans do with people they like.
arbitrator Then may your unconventionality be your guide--it isn't strange.
arbitrator I am simply curious.
blargchickahonkhonk /sighs/ It's strange to you. But if you like it, then I guess that makes it okay.
blargchickahonkhonk Um.
blargchickahonkhonk You ever. /he clicks his mandibles, ducking his head/ You ever think about finding a mate?
arbitrator Yes, in the past. Though, I've had too few, for the years I've lived.
arbitrator A shipmaster's duties were crucial--I was gone for many many months.
arbitrator When the time comes, I am typically distracted with work.
blargchickahonkhonk And not now? Because you have too many duties?
arbitrator Far less than previous years. If I were to settle, I would think on it at that time.
arbitrator I haven't given it much thought.
blargchickahonkhonk I think about it a lot. I mean, not just the sexy stuff, although that'd probably be nice, but
blargchickahonkhonk all the other stuff, like the support and comfort and knowing someone's out there thinking about you
blargchickahonkhonk But I think about I don't have time to be wooing a girl, and I don't even know what a Sangheili girl
blargchickahonkhonk looks for in a man, and I'm pretty sure they'd be in danger just for being close to me too.
blargchickahonkhonk It would just kinda be nice to have someone I can tell my secrets to that I ain't my mom, really.
arbitrator /a warble of a laugh, foreign to his own ears
arbitrator Some mate for life, some decide to find new partners--it's not much different than a human's way of
arbitrator doing things.
arbitrator Sangheili parents often stay together when it's a matter of dignity, and creating renown.
blargchickahonkhonk Yeah, but like. Do they like flowers? Chocolate, how do they feel about chocolate?
blargchickahonkhonk Do you guys even have chocolate?
arbitrator Chocolate... no.
arbitrator I have been taking supplements and eating rations for a long while.
blargchickahonkhonk What about diamonds. Mom says diamonds are a girl's best friend and you can win any girl if you give
blargchickahonkhonk her enough diamonds.
arbitrator /...
arbitrator Jewelry, yes.
arbitrator It is a sign of status.
blargchickahonkhonk ...You haven't had real food in a while?
arbitrator Although a soldier might take offence to such a thing--there is no room for pretty things when
arbitrator you're at war.
arbitrator And no, meal rations are taken in set quantity.
blargchickahonkhonk Man, I gotta take you to a restaurant. /he picks up his pace, giving Arbiter's hand a tug/
blargchickahonkhonk I mean, it's human food, so it's gonna be a bit weird for you, but it's good, I swear!
arbitrator /not a stumble in his step, he picks up his pace easily, hand in junior's
arbitrator Nutrients are similar no matter what edge of the universe you're travelling.
arbitrator I mind it not.
arbitrator --where is this place?
blargchickahonkhonk Uh... there're places all over. I'd ask what're you in the mood for, but you don't really know the
blargchickahonkhonk options.
blargchickahonkhonk And I dunno much about nutrients, either. With humans, the rule of thumb is, if it tastes good, it's
blargchickahonkhonk probably bad for you, and if it takes kind of ehn, it's healthy.
blargchickahonkhonk And a lot of stuff is heavily processed, so it take out a lot of the inherent nutrients, leaving it
blargchickahonkhonk full of the stuff that goes right to your thighs.
arbitrator I see...
arbitrator Quality of taste over quality of living--
arbitrator I can see the benefit, I know will greatly appreciate the meal.
arbitrator I feel as though I am being courted--you are aware I am not a female Sangheili?
arbitrator /amusement creeping into the deep tenor of his voice
blargchickahonkhonk Are you sure? I've never actually seen a female Sangheili close up before, I wouldn't know how to
blargchickahonkhonk tell. /he flashes the equivelent of a cheeky smile/
arbitrator /a tug at his hand, a move he finds out of character for even himself; he hasn't had time to play
arbitrator /it's somewhat refreshing
arbitrator Then you would do well to listen to your superiors, as well as your seniors on the matter, Brother.
blargchickahonkhonk Would you mind if I was courting you, though? /glances at him, head cocked/
arbitrator ... /isn't that the question of the century
arbitrator Forgive me for my uncertainty--we can discuss it over our meal.
